The Delegation of the European Union to Canada is looking to hire a Policy Officer.

We are
The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership among 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

 

We offer
We offer a post of Policy Officer. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Policy Officer – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function, the successful candidate will serve as Policy Officer to the Head of the Trade and Economic Section and contribute, under her supervision, to the fulfilment of the mandate of the Head of Delegation in regards to trade and economic cooperation with Canada.

 

Working hours: 37,5 hours/week Monday-Friday

Place of employment: EU Delegation, 1900-150 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, ON, K2P 1P1

Group: Policy Officer (group 1 in the EU system)

Minimum basic salary before taking into account relevant prior experience: 6.536 CAD/month (gross)

Selection Criteria

Minimum requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties i.e. passes the medical tests ;
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law i.e. Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident;
  3. Has excellent knowledge of English and French;
  4. Has relevant and sufficient education, training and experience (as per job description)

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Previous experience in the federal or in a provincial administration, or on Parliament Hill, in an international organisation or diplomatic mission.
  2. Specific experience or proven knowledge related to some of the following issues would be an advantage: EU-Canada environment, climate change, energy, trade and economic relations.

The procedure
After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
