Job Description

The G&RA executive is an IBM lobbyist engaging all three levels of government in Canada, as well as external stakeholders. The engagement at the Federal and Provincial levels include public policy (i.e. budget, tax, trade, workforce and skills development, technology and data responsibility), procurement opportunities/contracts, and public private partnerships that impact corporate IBM business interests. This role will include up to 25% travel.

The G&RA executive has five principal responsibilities:

First, externally G&RA Executive maintains relationships with key government officials, to communicate IBM priorities.

Second, internally, the G&RA Executive teams with, Canada Executive leaders (CGM and Executive Staff), IBM Global Government and Regulatory Affairs, business units and corporate staff teams to address the policy and business priorities. These are both Canada specific and IBM Corporate priorities.

Third, the G&RA Executive aligns with Canada Executive leaders to support Canada investment opportunities and country business goals. Reports directly to the Innovation, Citizenship and Government Affairs leader locally and through the Global G&RA team and its North America Leader.

Fourth, works closely with Senior Location Executives supporting local engagement with key stakeholders and decision makers.

Fifth, the leader will engage with a diversity of third-party stakeholders and industry associations to develop and deepen key relationships and drive business priorities.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Undergraduate University degree,
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience with government, which could include lobbying, legislative or executive branch leadership experience at the federal, provincial, or municipal level.
  • Track record of results and achievement
  • Strong communications and demonstrated teaming skills

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience

  • Post-Graduate studies (i.e. MA, MPA, MBA)
  • Experience and familiarity with governments and public/private partnerships;
  • Familiarity with data responsibility in technology, IT modernization, cloud, cognitive computing, AI, analytics or block chain.
  • Work experience with complex, matrixed organization
  • Fluency in French is also a preference.
