President
Atlantic Groundfish Council

The Atlantic Groundfish Council (AGC) represents commercial groundfish license holders in Atlantic Canada.   This group of leading fishing and processing enterprises includes some of the Canada’s most innovative small, medium and large seafood companies that collectively employ thousands of people, both at-sea and in shore-based facilities in 30 communities across Atlantic Canada.  The Association’s members are united by a deep commitment to stability of proportionate fishery quota shares, sustainable harvesting approaches, year-round career opportunities and a successful export-oriented industry that enables people and communities to prosper.

The President of AGC works closely with owners and senior managers of member companies to advance their priorities in a variety of forums, both domestic and international.

An important focus is to facilitate evidence-based government decisions, policies, regulations and legislation pertaining to fisheries off Eastern Canada that will promote sustainable utilization of Canada’s renewable wild fisheries resources, as well as prosperous enterprises, workers and communities.  To this end you will work effectively with senior government officials and elected officials, primarily at the federal level as well as provincially.

In the course of this work you will engage directly on specific issues that are commensurate with your knowledge and skill sets, and will otherwise provide leadership and strategic direction to a small team of strong performers in their respective fields including fisheries science, third party fishery sustainability certifications, fisheries conservation and management measures, government relations and public communications.

The President will also develop relationships with industry representatives and organizations in other countries in order to achieve mutually beneficial objectives. You will become a valued advisor to the Canadian government on bilateral and multi-lateral international fisheries issues and provide general input on international trade matters that affect the business of your member companies.

The ideal candidate is a results-oriented executive having years of experience in senior positions in association management, government, or a natural resources company, providing leadership with a strong aptitude towards consensus building and knowledge of government processes. A solid understanding of commercial fisheries issues is a definite asset.

An Ottawa-based President is preferred; however, applicants in Atlantic Canada will be considered for the right candidate.  Our team primarily works virtually.  A reasonable balance of travel is expected, including both domestic and international.
