The Wire Report Canada’s leading business news service covering telecom and media is seeking a journalist to join its Ottawa-based newsroom.

The successful candidate will report and edit coverage of the telecommunications (phone, wireless, cable and Internet) and media (broadcasting, radio, online media, etc.) industries for a  subscription website that has a readership of key decision-makers and stakeholders in this industry.

We cover topics like wireless competition, how Netflix and other streaming services are transforming the TV industry and emerging technologies like the 5G and the Internet of Things. Our specialty is the intersection of business, technology, and government, with a special focus on regulatory — which means you’ll be covering everything from companies’ quarterly reports and new products and tech to developments in Parliament and CRTC hearings, as well as court cases and industry conferences.

The Wire Report is based in downtown Ottawa, a short walk from Parliament Hill. We are a division of The Hill Times, which also operates The Hill Times, The Lobby Monitor and Parliament Now

The ideal candidate will have a university degree or college diploma in journalism, and experience in providing news coverage of business, government, courts and/or regulatory bodies. Interest in and experience covering federal politics is an asset.

The successful candidate would, over time, be expected to build up a network of sources in business, government and relevant organizations who can provide tips and insights to help us stay a step ahead of the competition in coverage of telecom and media matters.
