We are searching for a reporter with previous experience covering politics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, analyze, and report on government contracting processes and decisions, providing our readers with in-depth coverage and insights into this crucial aspect of Government work and spending.
  • Develop a strong network of sources within government agencies, private contractors, and advocacy groups to gather exclusive information and scoops.
  • Write engaging, well-researched articles that highlight the impact of government contracting on Canadian society, the economy, and government operations.
  • Write a weekly newsy column that will be published as a newsletter, building a community among readers passionate about these topics.
  • Stay up-to-date on policy developments, regulatory changes, and political events related to government contracting.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the overall political coverage of The Hill Times.
  • Participate in editorial meetings and pitch story ideas that align with the publication’s editorial strategy.
  • Maintain The Hill Times ethical standards for journalists.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years journalism experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, political science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in political reporting or investigative journalism, with a track record of breaking news stories.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • A deep understanding of Canadian politics and government operations.
  • Familiarity with government contracting processes and regulations is a plus.
  • Willingness to adapt to new reporting technologies and tools.
  • Mastery of CP style.
